“Give freely, give often. Blooddonation matters.”
World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) has been celebrated on 14 June of every year since 2004 in countries around the world which are member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation and to thank blood donors who help save million of lives. The theme of this year’s campaign is "Thank you for saving my life".
In Thailand, The Thai Red Cross Society encourages people to donate blood voluntarily under the slogan “Give freely, give often. Blooddonation matters.” The campaign is organized on 14 June 2015 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at National Blood Centre, Henri Dunant Road. Blood donors will receive “World Blood Donor Day 2015 T-shirt” as thank you gifts. A regular blood donation in every 3 months helps avoid a blood shortage in every year. The blood donation not only increases the blood storage, but also benefits donors’ own health. It urges a better function of bone marrow, a better blood flow and blood donors also get a physical examination prior to the donation.
The campaign holds many activities in addition to the donation of blood, stem cell, organs, eyes. Join an activity of posting photos on Facebook set in public with Hashtag#วันผู้บริจาคโลหิตโลก (WorldBloodDonorDay) to grab a chance to win a prize. Visit an exhibition of 10 healthy young men who have donated blood and blood components more than 100 times. Enjoy mini concerts by singers, actors/actresses from many record labels as well as games and the catering.
