International Nutrition and Obesity Expert Dr. Marion Flechtner-Mors Shares Lifestyle Tips to Combat Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome.

Dr. Marion Flechtner-Mors shares her best lifestyle tips with health enthusiasts to combat obesity and metabolic syndrome, while focusing on good nutrition and regular physical activity.

Herbalife, a global nutrition company, recently held the Thailand leg of the fourth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour. Building on the success of the previous three tours that welcomed close to 60,000 participants across the region, the fourth tour sought to further amplify public awareness on the importance of balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyles in today's?fast-paced world.

In Thailand, a key highlight of the Wellness Tour was the inspiring talk "Best Lifestyle Tips to combat obesity and metabolic syndrome" given by Herbalife's Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) member Dr Marion Flechtner-Mors, currently head of the nutrition and obesity research group at Ulm University, Germany. The event was held at the Arnoma Grand Bangkok Hotel with more than 500 participants.

While sharing her "Best Lifestyle Tips" to combat obesity and metabolic syndrome, Dr Flechtner-Mors suggested regular physical activity and a balanced diet consisting of the right proportion of protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates and fiber.

For physical activity, Dr Flechtner-Mors recommended 3 types of exercises to perform regularly: body composition, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility exercise. Body composition or weight training and strength training, will help build muscle mass to help your body stay fit. Cardiovascular fitness or endurance training, such as walking, running, biking and swimming, improves the cardiovascular system, blood pressure, blood fat levels, eating behavior, and mood. Flexibility exercise, or stretching, helps improve mobility and flexibility of the body and limbs, ensuring better posture and less tension.

For good nutrition, Dr Flechtner-Mors shared the principle of "Herbalife Balanced Nutrition." In daily life, people need 45% healthy carbohydrates 30% protein and 25% good fats (especially omega 3 and less saturated fats). Moreover, we also need 25 g of fiber daily. Dr Flechtner-Mors stressed the importance of drinking water, having sufficient rest, and exercising regularly.

She suggested that we should avoid foods that are high in fat, especially a western dietary pattern consisting of refined grains, red meat, processed meat, fried foods and sweetened beverages. We should stick to healthier options such as fish, poultry, fruit, carotenoid vegetables and unsweetened fruit drinks.

Dr Flechtner-Mors specializes in healthy nutrition and the relationship between obesity and associated metabolic disorders. She has undertaken substantial experimental research focusing on the alleviation of obesity through energy-restricted and low-calorie diets, meal replacements, and medication. Part of her work includes epidemiology and co-morbidities of obesity in children and adolescents. Her research is dedicated to developing and evaluating long-term, weight-loss programs and preventative strategies for nutrition-related disorders.
